Welcome to Kindergarten!!!
We encourage you to send your child on the bus, if possible, even during the first week. If you do bring your child to school, please say a brief good-bye outside the door, then let him/her come in alone. It is much more difficult for children to adjust after a parent has been in the room a while. I assure you that I have rarely (never) seen a child who did not appear comfortable in the classroom after a few minutes! School starts daily at 7:35 a.m. There is morning business to attend to (lunch count, notes from home, supplies to put away, etc.....) and it is much easier if the children are all present when school starts. Thanks!!
I will keep you informed about all of our classroom programs and plans in our weekly class newsletter Under The Big Top. This newsletter will be sent home every week in your child’s Friday folder, so you can read it over the weekend. Look for upcoming events and other special announcements in school-wide kindergarten newsletters, too! Children’s
lunches cost $2.00 and breakfasts cost $1.25. . If possible, I
encourage you to pay by the week or by the month. If you pay by the
week or month, you must send the money on a Monday. Please
put the
money in a sealed envelope with you child’s name, my name,
the class
code (K-B), and the purpose. Your
child
will be assigned a lunch number to use when buying lunch. When you
receive this number, help your child memorize it--this procedure makes
our cafeteria line run more smoothly. THANKS! Please send your
child to school only
when he or she is well! If you do need to send medicine to school for
your child, we must have a note from you with directions.
Medicine will be sent to the nurse’s office; she will call
your child
and administer the medicine at the proper time. Medicine must be sent
in the original container. Our school nurse is Cecilia Schmidt. Our school has a wonderful PTA that makes a great contribution to our school. I encourage everyone to join and to be active in this organization. I would love our class to have 100% membership this year. This year I would like to have a few parents who could come to the school weekly to assist with the preparation of materials for our class. Typical tasks would be cutting, laminating, copying, collating, and die cutting. No prior experience with these tasks is necessary! If you would be able to help in this way, please let me or our volunteer coordinator know. I would greatly appreciate it! I will also need volunteers to come help in the room for special activities. Please let me know if you would like to help. Every Monday, your child will bring a folder home containing his/her class work from the week. Please be sure to send the empty folder back each Tuesday. Kindergarten children will begin to check out books after the first few weeks of school. We will check out books on Mondays. Our school librarian is Jeanne Ditta. Birthdays are special occasions for young children. If your child wishes, he/she may bring a treat for the class for his/her birthday celebration! Please plan on sending 20 special treats for each member of our class. Please send a note a day or two in advance, so I can give you an exact number of children in the class and set aside some classtime for the mini-celebration. Please do not send birthday party invitations to school unless the entire class has been invited. Although it may seem convenient to distribute invitations this way, it can result in hurt feelings for those not invited. Each Monday, please send: 1. Lunch money (if needed) in a sealed/labeled envelope. 2. Discipline Folder 3. Library Book (if your child is ready to check out a new one!) Any time that your child arrives late or must leave early, you must first go to the office and get an admission or release slip. Going Home with a Friend or Another Adult If your child will be picked up by someone different or will be going home with a friend or on a different bus, we must have a note from you authorizing this. This is important; if we do not get a note from you, we must send your child home in the usual way. If you will be picking up your child at school, I encourage you to meet him/her at the drive-in area in front of the principal's office. Mrs. Salmeron and other teachers will be on duty to walk the children to their cars and to supervise them as they wait for their rides. Please do not wait right outside the classroom door; this is disruptive as children go on the "look out" and herald arrivals! Thanks!!! The kindergarten classes will begin dismissing at approximately 2:35 every afternoon. To encourage oral language, listening, and deductive reasoning skills, we have a class Surprise Box. This is our "Show and Tell" activity for the first six weeks of school. When your child brings home the Surprise Box, she or he will need to bring it back to school the following day with something in the box. On your child’s turn, please help him/her write three clues applying to the object in the box. Place the clues and the item in the box and return it the next day. If you are interested in being a member of our homeroom parent team, please let me know. Our class will have one or two homeroom parent team leader(s) and a group of parents to assist with their duties. Our room parents will get in touch with you regarding class parties and other special activities. I really appreciate everyone’s efforts to make this a memorable year for all the Marchese Clowns. It is important to label lunch kits, sweaters, jackets, backpacks, umbrellas, etc. with your child’s name and our class code (K-B) so lost items can get returned quickly and to help us keep all those things straight. There will be two formal times set for you to meet with me about your child’s progress; however, feel free to come visit with me any day. The first official parent conference day will be in October . In addition, we will have student-led conferences showing off their kindergarten portfolios at the end of the year. This is always an exciting time for the students to share all they learned this year. Report Cards are sent
home each six weeks
-
beginning the second six weeks. After the first six weeks we will offer
parent/teacher conferences to keep you informed about your
child’s
progress. This will
help you celebrate yours child’s accomplishments and will
provide a
snapshot of areas in which a little extra support in needed.
