Mrs. Marchese’s Discipline Procedures

Our Kindergarten Class Rules

Be a friend.

Listen.

Take turns talking.

Follow directions.

Learn and help others learn.

As teachers and parents, we recognize the important part behavior plays in the learning process for children. Learning appropriate behavior for school is one of the most important skills introduced in kindergarten.

The behavior management system we use is a simple, effective way to reward excellent behavior and redirect inappropriate behaviors before they become a set pattern. As teacher and parents, we work together with your child to have a successful school year. Our classroom is one filled with kind words and actions and lots of positive reinforcement. Here is the system we use in class:

Purple

An extraordinary day and a trip to our treasure chest or another special treat!!

Green

All children start each day with a green card on our behavior board, green for GO! If your child’s card stays on this color all day, he/she will earn a stamp or sticker.

Yellow

The second section is yellow for CAUTION! If your child’s card is moved to  yellow, it is a reminder for him/her to act in an appropriate way. Your child is reminded of the rule that was broken. The consequence for being in this section is to miss 5-l0 minutes of recess.

Red

If a child’s card is turned to red  he/she will be reminded of which rules were broken and will miss some of recess or another special activity.. A note will be sent home.

Your child will bring home a calendar each Friday; this will help you see how your child is behaving at school. Stickers and/or stamps will be on the calendar to reinforce your child's great behavior, or the calendar will be colored in  yellow or red. Remember, we will send a note home when the red card is showing at the end of the day.

This system has been an effective way for children to learn and use our class rules. Seldom is it necessary to go beyond the yellow section. If a child is having a problem and does not get a sticker for three or four days in a row, I will ask you to come in for a conference, so we can work on the problem together. Please ask for the take home folder each week. Praise any days your child has earned a sticker. Together we can help your child set a pattern for a lifetime of learning.
